You may be aware CBS pulled their miniseries based loosely on the life of former President Ronald Reagan. Steve over at Little Tiny Lies called it yesterday:
As it stands now, all we can say is, "Look what they tried to do," and the left can say, "You'll never know what we tried to do, because you kept the movie from being released." It's a lie, but they'll say it, and stupid people will believe it.Well, it didn't take long for the "stupid people" to get an essay up on MSNBC. I've never heard of Michael Ventre, but after one read I don't like him:
CBS decided to pull its miniseries, “The Reagans,” and the move was not made after much hand-wringing or pacing back and forth by network executives. It was done calmly, with a calculator. Nowadays, that’s how all decisions are made in television.Aww, did the little capitalists spoil your fun? And hey, even with the new voice of the conservatives Fox News there are still an awful lot of liberal outlets on TV. This morning I heard Bill Hemmer of CNN call al queda terrorists "operatives." What kind of spin is that? Operatives are spies for foreign governments, not pieces of trash who kill innocents.
CBS CHAIRMAN and CEO Les Moonves added up the number of ratings points the controversial skein would produce, weighed that against the cost to Viacom stock by an organized boycott from conservative groups opposed to the perceived depiction of the former President — none of whom, by the way, have seen or even perused a scriptWe may not have seen a script, but enough has been leaked that we don't need to see the rest. We know it's a hatchet job on a man who can't even defend himself, meant to tarnish the image of a reelectable President many see as a new Reagan. Steve again:
Nancy Reagan didn't run around slapping her children. Ronald Reagan didn't curse at her. Ronald Reagan didn't hate gays. Those things appear in the movie, and only an imbecile would say you have to see the rest of it to decide whether it's fair.Ventre again:
What matters is that there are fewer outlets for creative content than ever before . . . This keeps executives in power. It also suppresses dissent.Emphasis mine. AAIIEE! My rights have been squashed by the jack-booted thugs of the eeevvviiilll emperor Bu$h! If only.
What matters is that a major media company chose profits over the First Amendment and caved when a few vocal groups bent on getting their way applied pressure.Quit yer whining. This country has been overrun by liberal special interest groups bent on getting their way. My kids aren't going to be able to pray silently and ask God to bless their food in the school cafeteria, but it's fine if the gays want to teach them how to engage in same-sex intercourse.
Typical liberal. Can't stand his own medicine. Finally:
Of course, it’s the rest of America that will now have to toss and turn, wondering what other information is being kept from us by our big brothers in the media. No, the rest of us will sleep better knowing common sense and decency have triumphed over the media's perceived "right" to spew whatever filth they deem necessary to twist public perception.
