For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. when i was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:13-16Today is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, a day to reflect on the wonder and mystery of life.
Our pastor does an excellent job with this issue. Much of what he says comes from scripture. I'll try to hit the high points from the rest of his sermon:
Number of babies killed since 1973's Roe v Wade decision: over 43 Million. Million. An entire generation snuffed out. 3,600 per day in 2000. A September 11 disaster every day. 151 deaths per hour, an abortion every 24 seconds.
These are facts--no theology, no personal beliefs about abortion can change them. It is a slaughter of nearly incomprehensible proportions.
Percent of abortions performed for "personal reasons:" about 98%. (scroll to the bottom) Personal reasons include:
-- too young/immature/not ready for responsibility
-- economic
-- to avoid adjusting life
-- mother single or in poor relationship
-- enough children already
At the other end of life:
. . . Belgium and France have also begun considering whether euthanasia should be legalized. As society devalues human life this will inevitably happen. Society is moving toward a time when a person who has reached the end of their "useful" life and becomes a "burden" on society will apparently lose the right to life.Such measures are also under consideration in the United States. The state of Oregon has already allowed assisted suicide, and the state of Maine will determine the issue this fall. The aging of the world's populations will present significant challenges to its health care resources. Family- and community-based resources and technological innovations will continue to provide valuable contributions to the care of the elderly. Euthanasia and assisted suicide will continue to be explored as end of life options.
One more verse, this one from Hosea 8:7: "For they sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind."
It is no coincidence that the generation that spawned 1973's Roe v Wade ruling will fall victim to euthanasia at the hands of the abortion massacre's survivors.
