Doing a little summer cleaning on the blog. The iTunes list was getting old, so I added a few new treats I've discovered in the past year. Check them out.
Bill Whittle has posted another essay, this one titled "the web of trust." An excellent read, as usual.
If you're like me, scroll to the bottom to read "Rafts" because you missed that post, too.
I just happened to check my stats today and noticed a link from Althouse to my little 'ole blog. Wonder of wonders, I'd been linked to from there about two weeks after we moved to Guam, so I never even noticed. How funny. I know I'm late, but thanks for the link!
And no, this site is not named after a 60's psychedelic rock band.
My humble little blog has been honored as the Blog of the Week over at The Liberal Lie, The Conservative Truth. Thanks for the recognition, guys! And welcome to any who've linked from over there.
A reporter worth adding to the blogroll, Michael Yon snapped the photo of Major Mark Bieger holding the little Iraqi girl wounded by a car-bomb. Here's his site. If you want a first-hand account of the war in Iraq, go read it.
Hat tip: Michelle Malkin
I'm a little late to the podcast bandwagon, mainly because I don't commute far and have no real compulsion to listen to radio broadcasts of anything. But, a little birdie pointed her g...told me to take a listen to the 4 Jul IMAO podcast, and I'm glad I did.
If you want to hear one of the best reditions of the national anthem ever, tune in to the podcast. Wait until the end for the second verse of the anthem, which you hardly hear anymore but has just as strong a message.
The closing remarks by one cute kid are precious, too. If you're reading this post a little late, then go here to the archives.
It's been a while since I've visited Hog on Ice, but I'm glad I did today, here at the wifi nirvana known as Panera Bread. Go take a look at Steve's essay on nerds and why we all are nerds on something or other. A quote:
One of the signs of nerddom is the worship of celebrities who are only famous within your unique nerddom field. Let me quote a little subject heading from the catalogue: "CHERRYL MOOTE HAS DONE IT AGAIN!" Right away, if you have any grasp of how nerddom works, you understand why that sentence cracks me up.
Me, I'm so nerdly I can't talk to anyone anymore. Anyone want to talk about spiral development and it's impact on the operational logistician?
I didn't think so.
Howdy, Little Tiny Liars/Hogs on Ice! My little post about CNN Netscape's a$$hole photo label got me a link from Steve, and daily traffic has jumped from around 40 to 235! Have a little fun, comment if you like, and visit some of my fellow bloggers.
It's the Flea's 2nd Birthday! Go visit and wish him well.
Bill Whittle has both parts of his latest essay, "Deterrence," up. It is, as usual, an excellent read. Quote:
It would be nice to live in a world full of liberals. I say that as a staunch conservative. It would be nice to live in a world that behaved like a Hollywood party or a university campus, filled with kind, educated people with lots to lose, who cherish reason and responsibility and are incapable of brutal, violent acts. If all the world were filled with decent, compassionate, rational people, life would be a bouquet.Go read. But it’s not. There are bad people who do bad things, and there are bad countries run by bad people who do bad things who eat the kind and gentle people for breakfast. There is no denying this. Therefore, liberals are insane. I speak from experience here.
. . .
It all comes down to carrots (liberals) or sticks (conservatives). By the way: if you’re in a rush and need to run, here’s the spoiler: You can offer a carrot. Not everybody likes carrots. Some people may hate your carrot. Your carrot may offend people who worship the rutabaga. But no one likes being poked in the eye with a stick. That’s universal.

CCM's Album of the Year is a dark, brooding, honest look into the heart of every man. Standouts are the title song,
Dead Man (Carry Me), and Surprise. Leigh Nash (of Sixpence NTR fame) makes an appearance as well. The best song on the album is "Oh My God," which is simply the most incredible song I've heard in years.
